Oxfordshire Originals is the first in what we hope will be a series of books by local authors throughout Oxfordshire. This first collection of stories and poems is the product of various creative writing projects run by Meg Harper over the past three years at The Mill Arts Centre in Banbury.
Meg has edited this short anthology with additional contributions from Stuart Maine, Peter Draper, Uzma Chaudhry, Rebecca Boasman, Valerie Whitaker, Stuart Bridges and John Vickers. The writers took inspiration from exhibits at Banbury Museum and accounts of local history and legends – and then let their imaginations take flight!
The stories vary widely, from myths handed down over the centuries, through the harsh reality of World War 1 to modern folklore in the making. You are not reading “history” here but stories and poems rooted in Oxfordshire’s rich and chequered past. We hope you enjoy them.
If you are a local writer and have a story to tell, please contact the publisher at the address below for possible inclusion in future editions.
